STUDIES ON LASER GAS NITRIDING THE SURFACE OF TITANIUM TC4

  • Based on TC4,the surface of the TC4 was nitrided by using continuous layer and a golden nitrided layer was generated. With SEM,EDS and XRD,the nitriding layer micro-structure, elements distribution,and composition were analyzed. The result showed that a type of titanium nitride absence solid solution has been generated. Titanium nitrided layer consisted of the nitriding layer, heat affected zone and the substrate metal respectively. Nitriding layer and substrate were in a state of complete metallurgical bonding which binding force was strong and can not easy peeling off. The nitriding layer hardness was measured by micro-hardness meter, the surface hardness could be improved more than 4 times,the micro-hardness about the thickness of the depth ≥ 1000 HV0.3 was more than 100 μm.
