Discharge Characteristics of Dielectric Materials in The Electron Environment

  • Spacecraft surface dielectric materials lead to discharge phenomena in space plasma environment, and the transient pulse induced by discharge has a great impact on the safe operation of spacecraft in orbit.Through tests on measuring the transient pulse induced by electron radiation of Kapton and Teflon materials with different thickness, and tests on increasing of electron energy, we concluded that the discharge peak current remains unchanged with increasing energy of electron.Meanwhile the discharge frequency shows a positive correlation with the increase of the electron energy because of the charge accumulation rate increasing. As the thickness of dielectric material increases, the surface potential and the discharge peak current increase, and the discharge frequency diminishes.
