Impact of Magnetic Force Inhomogeneity on Free Surface of Liquid Oxygen under Magnetically Compensated Microgravity

  • Based on the paramagnetic properties of liquid oxygen in the magnetic field environment, and the strong magnetic field generated by superconducting magnets to provide a uniform magnetic field force for liquid oxygen,so we can conduct long-term and low-cost microgravity experiments on the ground. This paper takes free surface flow of liquid oxygen in the tank for example, simulates the free surface flow process of liquid oxygen in the tank with different homogeneity of magnetic force which generated by the superconducting magnet and then compared with the results under microgravity environment(10-6 g).They show that 0.1%inhomogeneity condition has basic ability of simulating the space microgravity environment.Under lower inhomogeneity condition(0.05%),the liquid oxygen flow in the magnetic compensation environment is recovered to a high degree.Under 0.3%inhomogeneity condition, the recovery of liquid oxygen flow in the tank is obviously deviated.Under more than 0.3%or even 1.0%inhomogeneity conditions, the free surface flow of liquid oxygen in tanks could not be accurately recovered or even stable oxygen bubbles could not be formed.
