Study on Metallization Process of Composite Surface by Arc Ion Plating

  • Metallization on the surface of fiber reinforced composites is the premise of conductivity,wear resistance,oxidation resistance and resin surface sealing.As an effective metallization method,the film thickness has great influence on the bonding strength and conductivity of metallized films.In this paper,in order to obtain the influence law of film thickness on its performance,Ti and Al films with different thicknesses were plated on the surface of glass fiber reinforced cyanate resin composite materials by multi-arc ion plating at 100℃.The influence law of electrical and bonding strength properties of metallized Ti and Al films on the surface of composite materials with different thicknesses was studied.The microstructure,chemical composition,surface morphology and thickness of Ti and Al films were compared and analyzed by X-ray diffraction,infrared spectrum and scanning electron microscope.The electrical,mechanical and hydrophobic properties of the films were analyzed by four-probe meter,tensile test and contact angle meter.The results show that the multi-arc ion plating method can effectively form metallized films on the surface of composite materials.Al films have obvious(111),(200)preferential growth while Ti films have obvious(100),(101),(002)preferential growth.When the film thickness reaches 2 µm,the metallized films have the best electrical properties.The block resistance of the two films is less than 100 mΩ/□,the bonding strength reaches more than 3 MPa,and the contact angle is increased to 90 degrees,and the hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties change.The Al films have more single growth orientation and better electrical and mechanical properties.
