Lightweight Design of Cryogenic Liquid Xenon Tank

  • The long-term operation of the geostationary orbit satellite needs the large capacity storage and supply unit of the electric propulsion system.According to the xenon characteristics and the electric propulsion system requirements,the overall structure design of liquid xenon tank is given,the storage temperature and pressure of cryogenic liquid xenon tank are optimized,and then the lightweight of tank is optimized under the optimized temperature and pressure conditions.The results show that when the storage weight of liquid xenon is constant,with the increase of pressure,the tank volume decreases but the total weight increases;and with the increase of temperature,the MLI weight decreases,but the tank volume increases,and the total weight increases.The effect of temperature and pressure should be considered comprehensively in the actual design.Taking the electric propeller with 4 836 kg liquid xenon storage as an example,the light weight of cryogenic liquid xenon storage tank was studied to provide guidance and reference for the storage and application technology of liquid xenon.
