Research Progress of Liquid Hydrogen Leak Diffusion and Safety Prevention

  • Liquid hydrogen leaks can be caused by the failure of liquid hydrogen storage tanks, improper operation of personnel and accidental tank impacts. When liquid hydrogen leaks, it would spread rapidly and absorb heat from the surrounding air, ground and building surfaces to form a flammable hydrogen gas cloud. If the formed flammable hydrogen cloud cannot be diluted and spread within a short time, it would cause great safety hazards when it encounters open fire. Therefore, it was crucial to systematically study the diffusion law of liquid hydrogen after leakage and adopt corresponding risk prevention techniques for safe storage and transportation of liquid hydrogen. To this end, the current research status of domestic and foreign scholars on the diffusion behavior of liquid hydrogen leaks and safety precautions for liquid hydrogen leaks are reviewed, and suggestions on liquid hydrogen safety prevention technologies and the focus of future research are put forward.
