Abstract:
In the development process of over a hundred years, numerous types of space electric propulsion technologies have continuously emerged. To better understand the development process of the electric propulsion technologies, this paper, based on previous International Electric Propulsion Conference(IEPC) papers and other related literatures, comprehensively organizes the types of space electric propulsion technologies that have appeared so far. The technologies have been classified into four categories: classical, evolutional, new-type and non-traditional ones. A brief introduction to eighty-eight technologies has been provided, with a detailed discussion of the working principles, historical origins, and development status of each category, including twelve types of classical propulsion, forty kinds of evolutional technologies, twenty-six kinds of new-type electric propulsion and ten types of non-traditional ones.
